One of the main aims of the project is to produce food grown in a sustainable way for the local community and to raise awareness about the impact of conventional food production and supply on the environment. We have 2 acres of crop-growing land managed by our grower Celia with the help of volunteers.
Our vegetables are grown without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Our animals (pigs, chickens, ducks, goats and sheep) all play an important part in the crop rotation system helping to prepare and fertilise the fields, remove weeds and pests from the land, as well as providing free-range eggs. This is a ‘regenerative’ process aimed at building soil and supporting wildlife.
Food grown on the farm is sold at our onsite shop and is also supplied to local cafés and farm shops such as Lily’s Cafe in Upholland and Windy Arbour Farm Shop.
