We are thrilled to announce the official re-launch of The Straw Bale Café at Greenslate Community Farm! This wonderful establishment operates as a social enterprise, following a similar model to the successful Langan’s initiative. The cafe is staffed by individuals in recovery and members from the care farm, fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
The Straw Bale Café’s charming building, a part of Greenslate Community Farm, was originally constructed with funding from PHE (Public Health England). Its name is derived from the prominent use of straw bales, which can be admired through framed panels on both sides of the balcony doors, adding a unique touch to its design.
We are proud to share that the partnership between BAC, We are With You, and Greenslate Community Farm has been commissioned by Wigan Council. Together, we will be managing the café and facilitating the community rehab program. During the pandemic, like many other places, the café had to temporarily close its doors. However, we are excited to breathe new life into it and once again serve the community with its revitalised offerings.
At The Straw Bale Café, we take pride in our commitment to using fresh, locally sourced produce directly from our very own Greenslate Community Farm. By embracing this farm-to-table approach, we ensure that our dishes are not only delicious but also wholesome and sustainable. Our partnership with the farm allows us to offer seasonal and flavourful ingredients, straight from the fields to your plate. Supporting local agriculture not only enhances the quality of our food but also promotes the well-being of the community and the environment. With each bite, you can taste the difference that comes from the care and dedication put into cultivating these ingredients. Experience the true essence of farm-fresh cuisine at The Straw Bale Café, where every dish is a celebration of nature’s bounty.
